And the bad news on the environment keep on coming. Do these people don't understand or do they just don't care ?

It's the end of the line, but money still comes first... Fear for the future, folks. It's not gonna be pretty.

I agree.

Tragedy of the commons.  no they don't care about the fish enough to curb their greed.

Soylent Green

i remember reading a story more than 10 years ago of ticked off local Spanish fisherman who’ve had their lively hood destroyed from the corporate trollers fishing Medeterrian tuna.

Always cracks me up when the Japanese Tuna fisherman send the taser down the line to reel in the tuna. Quite a difference from the Wicked Tuna show in the Atlantic.

Industry has only one concern. Profit. CEO's arrange their salary bonuses on profit margins and predictions.

They have zero concern for any future other than their own, which is how they climb so high on the corporate ladder that they get to call the shots and get as rich as they can before they lose their positions.

Normal people not blinded by the closeness of huge amounts of money in their pockets can see clearly that reductions in quotas for sustainability sake are needed. Companies always want "the other guy" to take the cuts while they keep taking what they can. It is up to Governments to do whats best for the future of their people in the long haul, not the short term jobs, but they worry so much about THEIR jobs that they also would rather protect a few jobs and profits than take the short term pain and potentially get voted out by reducing quotas.

Without the ability to work together to responsibly manage the resource it will disappear and everyone will be out of work, profits and food. Dont walk away from the conference until a reduction is agreed, or give up your jobs. With that fate they will soon make a deal.

Who brings a live 300 lbs tuna on board their ship? You drag it from the bow to cool it down first.

As a scuba diver, the sea is almost finished unless you like plastic

Ouch!

They employ short fishing lines with hooks and specific bait to attract bluefin tuna, one fish at a time. Once they have reeled the fish in, they harpoon it before bringing it aboard the ship.

Settle for lower quotas now or later (when it is too late)...your choice !

Yeah, it's a logic failure for them. "I may be able to charge more if there are less fish!" regardless of sustainability vs extinction.
