A bar explosion has left 15 people injured in a popular Spanish holiday spot.
The blast happened in San Pedro del Pinatar, Murcia, down the coast from Alicante, this afternoon (Thursday, June 19). Emergency services are treating over a dozen people who are injured at the bar in the Lo Pagán area. Three have been seriously injured with burns, it has been reported.
The incident has also caused significant damage to Casa Javi, on Torres Fontes Street in the small seaside town. Local police, ambulances and firefighters rushed to the scene at around 12.23pm local time following 25 calls from members of the public, according to reports from regional news outlet La7.
Three people suffered serious burns with two being taken to the Virgen de la Arrixaca Hospital in Murcia City and the other to Los Arcos Hospital in San Javier. Authorities from the City Council and Civil Protection Service were dispatched to Lo Pagán early this afternoon alongside firefighters from the Murcia Region Fire and Rescue Consortium and ambulances and paramedics from 016.
Photos from the scene show the bar's awning snapped into pieces, with nearby fruit and vegetable stalls collapsed onto the ground as passersby kneel down in a bid to clear up the mess. Several police officers can also be seen speaking to stallholders amid the wreckage.
San Pedro del Pinatar, a small municipality in southeastern Spain, is known for its traditional fishing trade as well as its popular mud baths and salt flats.

The La Verdad newspaper reported that the bar suffered a fire around a year ago, also affecting a home located above it.
Policia Local patrols, Emergency and Civil Protection staff from San Pedro as well as firefighters and health staff were mobilised to attend the scene.

Around 12 people are thought to have been injured in the explosion, the cause of which has not been confirmed, with some left in a serious condition.
