PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Governor Dan McKee said the state of Rhode Island has received “final confirmation” that U.S. Department of Transportation authorized the $251 million grant for the “15 Bridges” project.

The project will remove 15 bridges along the Interstate 95 and Route 10 corridors between Providence and Warwick that are considered to be in poor condition.

In May, the Congressional Delegation stated that the Ocean State would receive the award. Gov. McKee said that in the past week, Rhode Island received authorization from USDOT to access the grant.

Construction on the project began in 2024 with funding from other sources.

The bridge carrying I-95 over Elmwood Avenue has already been replaced.
