EMMETSBURG, Iowa (KTIV) - Students of Iowa Lakes Community College and Career Academy took home gold, silver, and bronze medals in the 2025 Iowa SkillsUSA competition held in Des Moines.

According to a release, students earned top honors against some of the best career and technical education students in the state. They represented the Boat and Watercraft Technician, Construction Technology and Powersports, and Power Equipment Technology programs.

Their achievements are as follows:

  • Tate Myers earned gold in the post-secondary carpentry competition.
  • Brody Van’t Hult earned gold in Marine Service Technology.
  • Antonia Capece earned gold in Power Equipment Technology.
  • Michael Anderson earned gold in Motorcycle Service Technology.
  • Drew Prins earned silver in Motorcycle Service Technology.
  • Brice Rooney earned bronze in Motorcycle Service Technology.
  • Jeremy Anderson earned silver in Power Equipment Technology.
  • Jacob Grau-West earned bronze in Power Equipment Technology.

The competitions for SkillsUSA are created and judged by industry professionals and are meant to ensure that students are learning real-world skills that employers are looking for. You can get further details on the competitions here.

“Our students continue to prove that Iowa Lakes delivers not just education, but career-ready talent,” said Kyle Norris, Executive Dean of Iowa Lakes. “Their skills and determination were on full display, and we couldn’t be prouder.”

“I’m really proud to represent Iowa Lakes - taking home the gold medal,” said Tate Myers, carpentry gold medalist. “The hands-on training and support I’ve received here has prepared me not just for competition but for a successful career.”

“Competing at SkillsUSA has been an incredible experience,” said Brody Van’t Hul, a double gold medalist in Marine Service Technology and Power Equipment Technology. “The instructors at Iowa Lakes have helped me develop my technical skills and confidence to perform at the highest level.”

The release noted that gold medalists will go on to represent Iowa Lakes at the 2025 National SkillsUSA Championships. This event will take place in Atlanta, Georgia, from June 23 to 27.
