A Maryland man was arrested and charged with the murder of his mother after she was found "unresponsive" in the bathtub, according to Maryland State Police (MSP).

Jeremy Gentry, 48, was charged with first and second-degree murder, first and second-degree assault and reckless endangerment. Police said he is currently awaiting a bond hearing.

On May 5 shortly before 9 p.m., the Fruitland Police Department and EMS responded to a home in Wicomico County for the report of an unconscious woman, according to police.

Once officials entered the home, police said they located "an unresponsive woman in the bathtub."

The Fruitland Police Department then requested the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit to take over the investigation.

After further investigation, Gentry was identified as the suspect and subsequent consultation with the Wicomico County State’s Attorney’s Office led to State Police investigators obtaining an arrest warrant.

The cause and manner of death for 68-year-old Beatrice Kay Gentry is still pending.

The Worcester County Sheriff’s Office, Snow Hill Police Department and the Fruitland Police Department are assisting in the investigation.
