A woman was shot dead inside her house, allegedly by a 17-year-old boy, in Northwest Delhi Friday, said police sources. Police suspect the incident was motivated by the fact that the victim opposed the suspect’s relationship with her daughter.
The woman, who was in her 30s, sustained two gunshot wounds to her chest and was rushed to BJRM Hospital where she was declared dead on arrival. The boy was suspected to have been accompanied by two accomplices, also believed to be minors, said officers. All three are absconding, said police.
According to police, the victim’s daughter and the suspected shooter had run away from home thrice before. Each time, the girl’s family tracked them down and brought the girl back home. “We suspect the boy murdered the girl’s mother because she wouldn’t let the two be together,” said DCP (Northwest) Jitendra Meena.
A relative said the incident took place around 3 pm when the boy, along with his associates, approached the house and asked where her daughter was. Said the relative: “When she said she was at a hostel outside Delhi, the accused got agitated and shot at her before fleeing.”
The relative said six months ago, the daughter had been sent to study at a school outside Delhi and had been living in a hostel as the mother did not approve of their relationship.
An FIR was filed under IPC sections 302 (murder), 452 (trespassing), 120A (criminal conspiracy), 34 (criminal act with a common intention).
