A North Carolina man is going to prison decades after a Kentucky woman was sexually assaulted.In December 1994, a 19-year-old woman was kidnapped in Owensboro and raped by her attacker in Spencer County, Indiana. The victim was ordered to lie on the floor of her car as her attacker then drove her back to Kentucky.At the time investigators only had a sketch of the suspect.According to court documents, in late 2022 DNA evidence recently connected Robert Shelton, 60, of Hickory, North Carolina, to the crime.Shelton pleaded guilty to the rape in the Spencer County Circuit Court and was sentenced to 30 years in prison on Tuesday.
