Jersey Shore Fishing: Many party boats sailing sailing shortened Thanksgiving trips

Sorry for the delayed blog, but the cursor on my Dell computer disappeared, and the problem was just resolved.

Many party boats are sailing shortened trips on Thanksgiving morning that will get anglers back in plenty of time for the holiday dinner. Be sure to check with your favorite skipper before coming down.

There were mixed reports on striper fishing today. The Golden Eagle from Belmar provided a good early report with mixed sizes, but never posted a final report. They will be sailing at 6:30 a.m. and returning at 1 p.m. From Friday to Sunday they'll be sailing Striperthons leaving at 6:30.

Miss Belmar Princess sails on Thanksgiving from 6:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. by reservation (732 681-0030). Friday's schedule is from 6:30 to 2:30, and Royal Miss Belmar will also be striper fishing from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

At Atlantic Highlands, Capt. Ron Santee of the Fishermen was surprised to see all the bunker that were spread from the tip of Sandy Hook to Monmouth Beach the day before had disappeared. There were only some short bass in the morning as he kept looking for the bigger fish that didn't show until they got some outgoing current in the afternoon which produced keepers among the smaller bass. The Fishermen will not be sailing on Thanksgiving.

Capt. Rob Semkewyc of the Sea Hunter is sailing from 6:30 to noon on Thanksgiving. He had good action with short bass today along with some keepers.

At Seaside Park, Grumpy's Tackle is running a one-day contest for kids 16 and under for the largest bass or blue weighed during their Thanksgiving hours of 3 a.m. to 2 p.m. There winner gets a Tsunami gift package. Some bass are being caught on lures late in the afternoon, and on bait during the day.

I fished a Monmouth County beach in the rain early in the morning and released 10 small bass on a Tsunami Sand Eel and a Castaways Super Teaser. The largest was 22 1/2 inches,

The Jamaica from Brielle will be sailing a limited giant sea bass trip at 2 a.m. Thursday night. The fare is $170, and reservations can be made by calling 732 528-5014.
