Jersey Shore Fishing: Strong winds shut down most fishing

With SW winds gusting to 50 mph in some areas, there wasn't much fishing done on Sunday. It appears that all party boats stayed in, and surfcasters were faced with rough seas and discolored waters - though Grumpy's Tackle in Seaside Park had weigh-ins of stripers weighing 13.3 and 22.65 pounds on bunker.

Better weather is coming this week, and west winds should settle the surf. Jerry Lasko of Point Pleasant checked the surf late in the afternoon and found it to actually be fishable, though dirty. It may take a couple of tide changes to clear up.

Lasko waded in the river during Saturday night and caught a school striper while Will Fredricks released four -- and Maren Toleno from Mantoloking outfished the guys with seven bass up to a 27-incher.
