Jersey Shore Fishing: NW wind should set up surfcasters

The strong NW wind is predicted to continue into Tuesday morning, with small craft warnings posted. That's bad news for boaters, but good for surfcasters who should find a fishble surf after a period of rough and off-color waters. There was a report of bunker schools showing up today off the northern Shore.

Those winds are supposed to die out Tuesday afternoon, and the rest of the week looks fine. Anglers planning to fish on party boats tomorrow should check with skippers before coming down. The Fishermen from Atlantic Highlands has decided to resume porgy fishing on Tuesday.

The Golden Eagle from Belmar concluded their canyon fishing Sunday night with one large yellowfin tuna boated though others were lost along with a swordfish that got off at the boat. They had fine fishing for jumbo blues Sunday on both Run-Off Hammer jigs and bait -- and will return to that fishing.

The information I was given by a third party for the old Jersey Coast Tackle in Brick had some mistakes. The new name is Gabriel Tackle Co. on Mantoloking Rd. , and the phone number is 732 714-6609.
